Nepse gains 10.66 points, daily turnover drops to 774.76 million on Tuesday

KATHMANDU, May 9: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday gained 10.66 points to close at 1,844.36 points, with the banks looking to reduce the interest rates any time soon.

The secondary market opened at 1,833.70 points added around 10 points in the first few minutes of transactions. It plunged to the day’s low at 1,829.33 points. In the next moment, the index escalated as high as 1,856.05 points before it closed for the day.

Stockbrokers said the market bounced back after the commercial banks started considering revising their interest rates on a monthly basis.  

All the 13 groups had their indices increased. Seven of them gained double digit growth.    

In the intraday trading, 161 listed companies gained in their market value, while 50 companies registered as losers. The sensitive index that measures the performance of the blue chips companies also added 1.87 points.

The daily turnover amount stood at Rs 774.76 million. The transaction volume was recorded at Rs 824.2 million on Monday, the largest in the past one week.

Among individual companies, Himal Dolakha Hydropower Company Limited with carrying out transactions of its shares worth Rs 69.62 million topped the list. People’s Power Limited was the topmost gainer, while Unique Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited lost the highest percent of its market price.
