NEPSE falls 17.23 points; daily turnover declines to Rs 5.248 billion

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Wednesday declined by 17.23 points to close at 2,070.84 points.

According to the NEPSE, the market opened at 2,083.81 points and hit the day’s high at 2,109.35 points in the first eight minutes of trading. The index remained stable almost for the next two hours. The market plunged to the day’s low at 2,055.77 points in the last half an hour, before it recovered around 15 points again to close for the day.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also declined by 4.25 points. The daily turnover amount fell to Rs 5.248 billion from Rs 7.111 billion on Sunday. The government declared public holidays on Monday and Tuesday to mark Christmas and Udhauli Parva, respectively.

Two groups-- non-life insurance added 131.03 points and mutual funds added 0.10 points. Of the 11 losers, life insurance, and manufacturing and processing shed three-digit points of 126.49 points and 110.59 points, respectively.   

Among individual companies, 159 were recorded as losers whereas 83 companies were the gainers.

Sonapur Minerals and Oil Limited carried out the largest transactions of its shares worth Rs 196.66 million. BPW Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited lost the highest of 10 percent of its market value. Nepal Insurance Co Ltd was recorded as the largest gainer.
