Nepse falls 16.40 points, daily turnover slides to Rs 1.78 billion

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday plunged 16.40 points to close at 2,150.46 points.

The secondary market opened at 2,121.86 points and lost around 12 points in the first few minutes. The index fluctuated a number of times in the remaining trading hours.

According to the stockbrokers, investors have lost confidence to invest in shares after mid-term review of the annual budget and monetary policy failed to dispel concerns regarding the dismal figures of the country’s economy. On Sunday too, the index dropped by a whopping 60.77 points. On Monday, the market remained closed after the government declared a public holiday to mark the People’s War Day.

In the intraday trading on Tuesday, 162 companies lost in their market value, while 45 stood at the gaining side. The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chip companies also fell by 2.74 points.

Along with a decline in the market index, the daily turnover plunged to Rs 1.78 billion from Rs 3.047 billion on Sunday. 

Only the manufacturing and processing sub group gained 16.17 points. Most of the remaining 12 trading groups lost double-digit points.  

Among individual companies, Himalayan Distillery Limited posted the largest transaction amount worth Rs 77.56 million. Barahi Hydropower Public Limited lost the highest percent of its market value, while Unilever Nepal Limited was the topmost gainer.
