KATHMANDU, Aug 11: After being closed for three consecutive days, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) that reopened on Monday closed with a significant drop in the market index. The NEPSE index fell by 27.90 points to 2,822.46, reversing the 18.30-point gain recorded last Thursday.
The Sensitive Index dropped by 4.74 points, the Float Index by 2.10 points and the Sensitive Float Index by 1.73 points.

Despite the decline in index points, trading volume saw an increase. While the market turnover on Thursday was Rs 8.53 billion, Monday saw nearly Rs 2 billion more in trades. A total of 98,525 transactions were made involving 324 stocks, with shares worth Rs 1,021 crore being bought and sold.
Among the companies traded on Monday, 220 saw a decrease in share prices, while only 30 companies recorded gains.
River Falls Power Limited’s share price rose to the circuit limit and Panchakanya Mai Hydropower’s shares increased by 6.87 percent. Meanwhile, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Financial Institution’s share price fell the most, dropping by 7.64 percent.
Based on trading value, Shivam Cements topped the list with shares worth Rs 538.86 million traded. Himalayan Reinsurance had trades worth about Rs 428.3 million, and Nepal Reinsurance’s shares worth Rs 366 million changed hands.
Out of 13 subsectors traded on Monday, only 2 saw their indices rise, while 11 subsectors experienced a decline.
