KATHMANDU, June 11: Chocoberry is introducing flavored frozen yoghurt for the first time in Nepal. The self-service outlet, which is located at the 7th floor of Civil Mall, is throwing its doors open this week.

Shameendra Khadka, one of the proprietors of Chocoberry, said the main objective of introducing the frozen yogurt is to promote healthy dessert among Nepalis people.

Frozen yoghurt is similar to icecream, but is made using yoghurt instead of cream. Like icecream, it is available in different flavors.[break]

Though flavored frozen yoghurt was first introduced in Korea, Khadka and his friends are importing technology and equipment from the US. “I came to know about frozen yoghurt when I was in the US for my studies. I decided to introduce this dessert in Nepal because it is very popular in US and is considered healthier compared to icecream,” added Khadka.

Chocoberry is initially 30 flavors on rotation basis. “Customers can try 10 different flavors at a time with the help of five machines available. We will be rotating the flavors so that customers can try different flavors when they visit us,” said Khadka.

Frozen yoghurt at Chocoberry will be available in flavors like chocolate, vanilla, butter scotch, strawberry, blueberry, Irish coffee, banana, pineapple and orange.

Besides, customers can add 30 different types of toppings like seasonal fresh fruits and dry fruits, chocolate chips, nuts and Oreo cookies crumbles, among others.

“As we are a self-service outlet, customers will have to take yogurts from the machines and toppings themselves. We will weigh the dessert and calculate the price accordingly,” Khadka said, adding that Chocoberry is charging Rs 1.25 for a gram of frozen yoghurt. “This dessert is for customers of all age groups as it has low fat. It can be consumed by a kid as well as elderly people.”

Chocoberry plans to introduce sugar-free items and home pack system in the near future. It can accommodate 30 people at a time.

Khadka and his friends have invested Rs 2.5 million on their first outlet. They plan to open another outlet within 3 to 4 months. They also have the plan to branch out of the Kathmandu Valley in the near future.

Besides frozen yoghurt, Chocoberry will also sell mocktails in eight different flavors like Virgin Mojito, Pineapple Express and Milkshake, among others.
