KATHMANDU, Aug 19: CPN-UML lawmaker Somnath Poudel has accused the government of failing to address the hardships faced by the people, using satire to highlight the shortage of cooking gas.

Speaking at the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, Poudel remarked that queues for cooking gas in Nepal had become so long that they could now be seen from the moon.

He said people were being forced to spend their days without access to even cooking gas or firewood, surviving on “mourner’s snacks,” while electricity was also unreliable for using induction cookers.

“From the moon, the Great Wall of China could once be seen. Now, even Nepal’s gas queues have started to become visible,” he said.

Poudel also took a swipe at the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)-led government, saying that although it had won 182 seats and pledged to accomplish 100 tasks, it would receive a “D” grade if evaluated by the public.
