KATHMANDU, Nov 20: On World Children’s Day, Nepal’s children and young people presented a report titled Listen To The Future: Nepal’s Children and Young People Call for Climate Action to Minister of Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri. The report, which highlights the impacts of climate change on children in Nepal, also urges adults to take action for a sustainable future.
The report was handed over by five young representatives from across Nepal: Anuska Rawal, 11, Shreya Thapa, 13, Matrika Prasad Upadhaya , 16, Ram Sunari Magar , 18, and Pinki Kumari Sharma, 21. The event was attended by senior officials, including Vice Chairperson of the National Planning Commission Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari, the French and Norwegian Ambassadors, as well as UNICEF representatives.

According to a press release issued by UNICEF in Kathmandu, the report, prepared through consultations with over 400 children and young people across Nepal, calls for increased youth involvement in climate decision-making. Key recommendations include creating eco-friendly schools, promoting climate-smart agriculture and building disaster-resilient communities.
UNICEF Representative to Nepal, Alice Akunga, praised the leadership of young people, emphasizing the importance of investing in resilient social services to protect children from climate risks.
Minister Thakuri noted that the report is a crucial reminder to place children and young people at the center of climate decision-making, as Nepal prepares to finalize its third generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the press statement reads.
