BEIJING, July 3: The government of Hong Kong has decided to confer the Chief Executive Award on Kul Prasad Gurung, who has been actively working for the welfare of minorities in Hong Kong.

The government of Hong Kong honors people making contributions in various sectors with the award every year. Gurung, who is from Kaski, Nepal and has been living here for the last 14 years, has made significant contributions for the welfare of various minorities, including the Nepalis, in Hong Kong.

He is also the publisher of the Nepali Post that mainly covers the news of Nepali community in Hong Kong.

“I feel proud for being awarded. The award should be taken as respect given to the minorities by the Hong Kong government,” said Gurung.

Chief Executive of China-ruled Hong Kong hands over the award to selected individuals during a function held to mark the Chinese National Day on October 1 every year.

Other Nepalis to receive the award earlier are Pushpa Gurung, Pushpa Rai and Sarmila Gurung.
