KATHMANDU, Dec 23: A special ceremony on December 20 honored Prince Yubaraj Karki, a prominent Nepali entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, with the prestigious President’s Volunteer Service Award 2024. San Jose Mayor Matt Mohan presented the award to Karki.
Karki received a signed award letter from President Joe Biden, recognizing his substantial contributions to fostering American ideals and supporting local communities. It recognized his efforts in addressing societal challenges through his dedication and passion. The Gold Award citation read, "By sharing your time and passion, you are helping deliver solutions to the challenges we face."
Tech Sovereignty: A Quest for Nepal
Karki, who migrated to the United States from Nepal 13 years ago, is a successful entrepreneur operating multiple restaurants and investing in various ventures. He is regarded as a trailblazer within the Nepali diaspora in the U.S. His collaborative work with fellow Nepali-American entrepreneur Anil Pandey, the leader of Motherland Nepal, a nonprofit organization serving Nepali communities in the U.S., has further amplified his impact.
In addition to his business ventures, Karki and Pandey have also ventured into the film industry, producing the Nepali movie Tel Visa. The film has been a commercial success, now running in its fifth week in Nepal.
Karki, expressing his thanks for the award, stated his happiness at the recognition and how it further ignited his passion for community service. The credit goes to my entire team.”
