LONDON, As many as 11 Nepali nationals who left Russia are currently stranded in the forests of Lithuania and Belarus. 

They came into contact with Jay Prakash Shiwakoti, a representative for the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Slovakia, through Whatsapp on Saturday and requested to be rescued. Nepal's ambassador to Germany, Ram Kaji Khadka, said that the Nepalis might be victims of the Ukraine war but could be trying to enter Europe through other means. According to Khadka, efforts are underway to contact the Nepali embassy in Russia for the search of the Nepalis.

Similarly, some Nepali nationals who were earlier detained in Germany were released after the efforts made by the Nepali embassy in Berlin. According to Khadka, the Nepalis were detained by the Immigration Department of Germany.

Earlier on Saturday, four Nepalis were airlifted from Hungary, Romania, and Poland by an Indian airline. Similarly, six other Nepalis have also safely reached Nepal through their own means. Amid this, the Nepali Embassy in Berlin has started issuing free travel permits. So far, 56 Nepalis have obtained the travel permit. 

Meanwhile, the NRNA Spain President Shaligram Dumre said that as many as 132 Nepalis have come into contact following the start of the Ukraine-Russia war. He said that most of the Nepalis have been sent to Portugal as per their request.

Meanwhile, President Robin Adhikari of NRNA Portugal said that the community has prepared accommodation and food supplies for Nepalis who fled Ukraine. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, many Nepalis have taken refuge in Poland, Slovakia, France, Spain, Germany, Romania, and Moldova. So far, 466 Nepalis have sought refuge in Poland, 71 reached Slovakia, 28 Romania, eight Hungary while four have reached Moldova.
