KATHMANDU, Aug 4: One Nepali migrant worker has succumbed to COVID-19 in South Africa while 22 others have been diagnosed with the disease in the Africa region.
A 34-year-old male from Panchthar who was working at a private company in Johannesburg died of the novel coronavirus disease while undergoing treatment. The person's throat swab sample was collected and sent for testing. He breathed his last during treatment at a hospital in Johannesburg.
US Seeks Closer Ties with Africa
His throat swab sample came positive for COVID-19 after this death, according to Hikmat Thapa, the former treasurer of the Non-resident Nepali Association.
Thapa also said that 22 Nepali workers based in South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Ivory Coast tested positive for COVID-19. Of them, 10 returned to work after recovery.
