Nepali judo team off to Bhutan

An 11-member Nepali team today left for Bhutan to participate in the First South Asian Youth Judo Development Championship and Camp.

KATHMANDU, May 6: An 11-member Nepali team today left for Bhutan to participate in the First South Asian Youth Judo Development Championship and Camp.


Four male and two female players will compete in the Championship to be held from May 7 to 12.


Bisaj Maharjan and Sadin Tamang will compete in the men's under-40 kg weight category, Jubin Maharjan in the under-50 kg weight category and Simon Tamang in the under-36 kg weight category.

Similarly, Shrasta Napit will compete in the women's under-57 kg weight category while Jenisha Waiba in the under-36 kg weight category.


Included in the team are Yogendra Bista as the coach, Nabin Maharjan as official, Lakhan Raj Thapa Magar and Kul Bahadur Kunwar as IT officer and Kiran Gadel as judge.


National Sports Council Vice-Chairman Dhruba Acharya, Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya among others bid farewell to the team amidst a programme organized here today.


According to instructor Dharma Kumar Shrestha, players from Nepal, India, Bhutan and Bangladesh will participate in the Championship.
