Chameli Shakya’s Dhaka fabric items are in high demand in the close-knit circle of family and friends. In her sixties, Shakya’s love for stitching is quite evident in her craftsmanship.

If channeled properly, that could lead to a lucrative venture for elderly women and other housewives.[break]

And so thought her granddaughter Deepa Shakya, too.

“The whole idea started from my grandmother. She’s my source of inspiration behind ‘Home to home’,” revealed Deepa.

Starting with a page on Facebook, she has given her idea a motion into reality by the initiative that aims to provide a platform for homemakers to bring forth their homemade products.

“Not necessarily a business venture, this is for all those homemakers who idle away and have very little options to utilize their craft,” she said.

Taking it one step at a time, she feels that quality is one aspect that can’t be compromised. Hence, the project currently focuses on Dhaka products only but will be adding other items ranging from homemade jams, pickles and other various goods in the coming days, provided it meets with the criteria.

Deepa encourages, “If you have it in you, we are here to help you make use of the talent. Interested ones can find us in Facebook by typing ‘Promotion of Home made, hand made products by housewives’.”
