Nepali finishes 66th in Orissa

KATHMANDU, June 14: Nepal champion Badrilal Nepali won a cash prize of Rs 5,500 finishing 66th among 316 players in the First International Open Grand Master Chess Tournament held in Orissa, India. [break]



With the completion of the 10th round match, Nepali added 6.5 points in his account. In the last round match Sunday, Nepali defeated IM Rahul Shetty of India.



Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, nominated in two categories -- veterans and 1900-2000 rating -- lost in both the categories on the basis of progressive points by one point in each category. Rajendra accumulated six points winning the last round match.



Among the four unrated players, three of them -- Gyanendra Prasad Shresth, Maniraj Dangi and Umesh KC -- succeeded to get the ratings.



Balaram Napit came third among the Nepali contestants with 5.5 points. He defeated FM Rani Hamit of Bangladesh in the last round match.



Wilam Lal Shrestha, FM Manish Hamal, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Lawa Kumar Shrestha, Prakash Nepal and Gyanendra Shrestha garnered five points each.



Ukraine GM Dojdavaski Yuri won the title.



Altogether, 24 Nepali players participated in the tournament.
