“If the Supreme Court gives a verdict in favor of house dissolution, NC will go for the polls.”

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), President Sher Bahadur Deuba has maintained that the party is ready to go for the election if the verdict of the apex court does not overturn the government’s move to dissolve parliament.

NC will accept the decision made by the court whether it is in favor of house dissolution or against it, Deuba said.

President Dueba also urged all the lawmakers, political parties and leaders to let the Supreme Court make decisions without any external pressure and interference.

Following the dissolution of the lower house of federal parliament by the government, as many as 13 writ petitions were filed against the government’s move at the apex court. The case of house dissolution is currently sub-judice at the court. Protests and demonstrations demanding reinstatement of parliament have erupted across the nation.

“None of the parties should stage a protest against the case that is sub judice at the Supreme Court,” Deuba said. However, NC itself is staging nation-wide protests against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has already begun preparation for the pre-announced midterm election. The Home Ministry also directed the security bodies to initiate preparations.
