WASHINGTON, Oct 9: The Nepali community in the Washington, D.C., area has raised $20,000 to support families affected by the Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal, according to a press release.
The funds were handed over to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle at the Embassy of Nepal in Washington, D.C., on October 5, for deposit into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, the press release said.
The fundraising campaign was led by Arjun Ranabhat, president of US-Nepal Gastronomy, who mobilized members of the Nepali diaspora and friends of Nepal to support flood-affected communities.

Ranabhat, accompanied by Nisha Karki, chief strategic officer; Chef Bruno Bertin, founder and brand ambassador; and Ram Thapa, vice president and founder, presented the contribution to Wagle alongside other members of the organizing team.
The finance minister thanked the organizers and donors for their support, according to the press release.
Ranabhat said the fundraiser was a collective effort to help families affected by the disaster, thanking everyone who contributed to the campaign.
“Whenever our people in Nepal face a crisis, the Nepali community abroad has a responsibility to stand with them,” Ranabhat said, adding that the contribution reflected the community’s solidarity with flood-affected families.
The $20,000 contribution will support relief efforts through the government’s disaster relief mechanism, the press release said.
