MUGU, May 24: The Nepali Army has constructed a helipad in Pulu, the administrative center of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, to improve emergency response in the remote region.

The helipad was officially handed over to the rural municipality on Friday. Division Chief Major General Anup Jung Thapa handed it over to Rural Municipality Chairperson Tshering Kyapne Lama during a formal ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Chairperson Lama highlighted the critical need for such infrastructure, recalling past tragedies where residents, including pregnant women and seriously ill patients, lost their lives due to delays in medical evacuation and lack of timely relief. "Even those who could afford treatment were unable to reach well-equipped hospitals in time," he said.

Lama expressed hope that the new helipad would significantly enhance the delivery of emergency services and save lives in the future.

Every year, thousands of people from within and outside the district travel to the highland pastures of Karmarong to collect *yarsagumba*, a highly prized medicinal herb. Many suffer from altitude sickness, extreme cold, and changing weather conditions, often requiring urgent medical attention.

The helipad was constructed at a cost of Rs 844,173.
