KATHMANDU, Nov 26: E-rickshaws with red number plates carrying passengers within the Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan market will face a ban. In a stakeholders' meeting held at the District Administration Office, Banke that was part of the sub-metropolitan city project, it was decided to provide a grace period until December 8 for the owners to change the red number plates to black.
Given that a majority of e-rickshaws transporting passengers within the city operate with red number plates, a decision was made during the November 10 meeting to transition these plates to black. Despite the initial 21-day notice concluding on December 1, it has been further resolved that e-rickshaws with red number plates will be prohibited from carrying passengers starting December 9, with an additional seven-day grace period, as stated by Mayor Prashant Bista.

E-rickshaws found carrying passengers with red number plates will be impounded at designated locations, including the District Administration Office, Police Gymnasium Dhamboji, and Forensic Science Laboratory Ganeshman Chowk. Bir Bahadur Thapa, the chief of the revenue branch in Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city, clarified that the e-rickshaws will remain in holding until the installation of black number plates.
To address the escalating traffic concerns in the Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan area, a decision has been made to restrict four-wheeled vehicles from Tribhuvan Chowk to Triveni turn. Additionally, the road from Ganeshman Chowk towards Charbahini Chowk will be converted into a one-way route.
