KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Nepal women have secured the third place in the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 Asia Region Qualifiers defeating Hong Kong Women in a play-off match by 36 runs. Karuna Bhandari picked up three wickets along with sharp fielding efforts by Nepal culminating in three run-outs bundling out HK for 58 on Monday.
Hong Kong won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal, helped by Nary Thapa’s 38 runs from 34 deliveries, put up a score of 94 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Hong Kong’s Hill and Lamplough picked up two wickets each.
Nepal finished third with six points in the group, failing to grab the top two spots to qualify for the global qualifiers. Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) got first and second positions with nine and eight points respectively. Hong Kong finished fourth with five points and Malaysia finished fifth with two points. China stayed at the bottom of the table without even registering a single point.
Belgium beat England to secure third place finish
The top two teams advance to the global qualifiers to be held in Netherlands in June next year, where Bangladesh and Ireland along with six other nations will be competing. The top two teams from the global qualifiers will then join top six ranked teams in the ICC Women’s World T20 that will be held in West Indies in November 2018.
