The delegation led by Ministry for Labor and Transport Management (MoLTM) Mohammad Aftab Alam will leave for Japan on Thursday. Baburam Acharya, secretary at MoLTM, and section officer Bhawani Thani are the other members in the delegation.
“We will request high-ranking Japanese officials to form a joint mechanism to expedite the process of recruiting Nepali industrial trainees to Japanese enterprises by formulating a guideline for sending process,” Acharya told Republica on Wednesday.
A tripartite agreement was signed between Japan International Training Corporation Organization (JITCO), MoLTM and Federation of Nepalese Chambers and Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in 2003 to designate Federation of Nepali Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCC), a sole agency to send Nepali interns to work in Japanese industrial sector.
However, the government signed another Memorandum of Understanding in May, 2008 to allow government-designated private agencies, including the FNCCI, to send industrial trainees to Japan after the apex business organization failed to send workers as per the agreement.
The FNCCI has so far succeeded to send only six workers to Japan for training purpose under the ITS.
“We will also ask Japanese officials to increase the opportunities for Nepali industrial trainees in Japan, which is facing huge shortage of industrial manpower,” added Acharya.
According to him, Nepali delegation is scheduled to meet Japanese Labor Minster, Law Minster, and President of JITCO and President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) during the four-day visit.
Acharya said Nepali recruiting agencies should also be prepared to send more Nepalis to Japan which is seeing huge number of employees retiring from government and industrial enterprises in 2010.
Japan is mainly recruiting Indonesian and Chinese workers to supplement the ever increasing demand of trainees in industrial sector.
