"We received an invitation from AIFF a few weeks ago. As FIFA has also given official status to the match, we accepted the proposal," said ANFA Spokesperson Lalit Krishna Shrestha. "It is just a coincidence that the match is being held on the election day," he added.
According to Shrestha, ANFA will look for more friendly matches in future. "We want to give maximum exposure to the national side. We have also been holding discussions with the FAs [football associations] of the Philippines and Malaysia for organizing friendlies," said Shrestha.
India will take on the Philippines in another friendly on November 15.Nepal had defeated India 2-1 when the two teams last met during the group stage of the SAFF Championship in Kathmandu on September 5.
Of the 14 encounters between the two sides in the past, Nepal has won three matches and India 10, while one match ended in a draw.
