Nepal to participate in beach football

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has decided to send a team to the South Asian Beach Games (Beach SAG) to be held in Hambantota, Sri Lanka between October 8 and 16.



"We have decided to send a national level team to the Beach SAG and we´ll finalize the team in few days," said Lalit Krishna Shrestha, ANFA vice president and spokesperson.[break]



"However, the team for the Beach SAG will not include players of the current national team undergoing training for the SAFF Championship," he added.



With the late inclusion of football, Nepal is set to compete in five different sports in the Beach SAG. According to Nepal Olympic Committee recognized by International Olympic Committee, Nepal is participating in volleyball, basketball, tent pegging, kabaddi and football in the Beach SAG.



Volleyball, basketball, tent pegging finalize players



Neeta Shah and Chuda Khadka will represent Nepal in women´s beach volleyball while Im Bahadur Rana and Sanjay Aryal will compete in men´s beach volleyball. Nepal Volleyball Association Vice President Dan Bahadur Tamang will be the team leader.



The team of Shah and Khadka had won the title of the first National Women´s Beach Volleyball Tournament held in Sauraha, Chitwan in June while Rana and Aryal had won the second National Men´s Beach Volleyball Tournament held in Sitapur, Banke last month.



Likewise, Nepali women basketball team, which includes Nayana Shakya, Sadina Shrestha, Sujata Rai, Deepika Upreti, will vie for medal in women´s beach basketball.

Dhruba Prasad Aryal, Khadga Bahadur Karki, Lal Bahadur Kunwar and Khildhwaj Khadka will participate in tent pegging.



NSC lacks budget



Meanwhile, National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama said that respective national associations have informed NSC about their participation and that the NSC wants players to participate in the Beach SAG.



"However, the respective associations are participating at their own expense  and we wish them succees in the event," said Lama. "There was no prior information and the associations didn´t  ask for financial help," said Lama.
