KATHMANDU, Aug 12: The Government of India has agreed to purchase an additional 200 megawatts (MW) of electricity generated from five different hydropower projects in Nepal. With this agreement, Nepal’s total export capacity to India has reached 1,010.9 MW, combining the previously authorized 810.9 MW and the newly added 200 MW. Including the 40 MW electricity export to Bangladesh, Nepal’s total approved export capacity stands at 1,050.9 MW.
NEA receives permission to import 15 MW more electricity

The recent approval from the Indian government, received on August 11, is valid from August 11, 2025, to October 31, 2025. It covers electricity generated from the following hydropower projects: Likhu (2), Likhu Khola A, Lower Solu, Thulo Khola, Super Kaweli Khola A, and Super Kaweli Khola.
In the fiscal year (FY) 2024/25, Nepal exported electricity worth Rs 1.747 billion to India. With the newly granted export approval and anticipated additional consents, electricity exports to India are estimated to double in the current FY.
