Nepal was about to host the championship from July 22-30 but the devastating earthquake on April 25 forced to shift the championship to Thailand.  Prakash KC and Bikash Thapa will compete in men's 62 kg event, while Dinesh Shrestha will take part in 94 kg event. Likewise, Gagan Singh Oli and Pukar Gurung will participate in men's 105 kg event.

Meanwhile, the only female weightlifter in the team, Tara Devi Pun, will compete in 75 kg event.  The only medal Nepal has won at the Asian Championship in senior level was 32 years ago. Surendra Bahadur Hamal had claimed bronze medal in the 15th edition of the championship held in Damascus, Syria in 1983. The Nepali team will leave for Thailand on September 4. Sunil Lal Joshi and Jagadish Pradhan are the coaches of the team.  Meanwhile, National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista bade farewell to the team on Monday.
