KATHMANDU, July 27: Nepal spent Rs 31.5 billion on importing smartphones, headphones, and mobile chargers in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023/24.


According to the latest foreign trade statistics from the Department of Customs (DoC), smartphones rank third among the most imported items in Nepal, followed by petroleum and iron products.

During the past FY, Nepal imported smartphones worth Rs 28.67 billion, totaling 1,839,035 units. The government collected Rs 5.34 billion in customs revenue from these imports.


Additionally, 1,758,690 telephone sets valued at Rs 1.43 billion were imported. Headphones imports amounted to Rs 659.3 million, with 2,996,229 units brought into the country. Customs revenue from headphones was Rs 219.23 million.


Moreover, the import of chargers reached 4,382,839 units, worth Rs 507.17 million. The revenue collected from chargers was Rs 155.71 million. 


Furthermore, 239,669 smartwatches, valued at Rs 355.15 million, were also imported during the same period.
