Nepal spent around Rs 534 million to import facemasks in first eight months of current FY

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal imported facemasks worth Rs 533.84 million in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.



The records with the Department of Customs show that Nepal imported facemasks from more than three dozen countries including Australia, Cambodia, China, Canada and France. The government collected customs revenue worth Rs 94.10 million from the import of facemasks.

Demand for facemasks shot up dramatically following the spread of COVID-19 last year. So, the price of a normal facemask had reached as high as Rs 40 per unit. Recently, a number of Nepali companies have also started manufacturing facemasks to meet the market demand.
