Nepal's daily COVID-19 cases surpass 1,000 for first time, coronavirus tally reaches 28,257

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Nepal has recorded highest single day spike with 1,016 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday.

At a virtual press briefing, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Jageshwar Gautam confirmed that 1,016 new cases of coronavirus were detected during tests conducted in various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

"With this, total coronavirus infection in Nepal has risen to 28,257," Gautam said.  This is the first time that the number of daily COVID-19 cases has crossed 1,000 in Nepal. According to the ministry, 13,461 swab samples were tested through PCR method in the past 24 hours.

The Kathmandu Valley alone has witnessed 205 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. 

Meanwhile, 85 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 recovery tally to 17,580. 

According to Gautam, seven more COVID-19 related deaths were reported in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus death toll to 114.
