KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala on Friday asked the US government to extend financial support to Nepal also through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) -- the US agency fighting global poverty.

At a meeting with US ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde on Friday, Koirala also said developed countries should give preferential treatment to poor nations. He also drew the attention of Bodde toward the export potential of Nepali agro produces such as coffee and tea in the US market.

Minister Koirala also told Bodde that he would meet US officials and hold discussion with them on bilateral trade on the sidelines of the Annual General Meeting of World Bank and International Monetary Fund to be held in Washington later this month.

Speaking at the meeting, Bodde asked the government to speed up reforms on Public Financial Management.
