Nepal secures third position

KATHMANDU, April 30: Defending champion Nepal recorded seven-wicket win over Qatar in the third place playoff match in the ongoing ACC U-19 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament held at Hubara Cricket Ground in Kuwait on Thursday. Four-time ACC U-19 Elite cup champion Nepal, who lost to Afghanistan on Wednesday in the semifinal and got its dream of playing in the ICC U-19 World Cup shattered, secured a consolatory third place in the tournament. Electing to bat first, Qatar garnered 142 runs losing all wickets in 44.4 overs. Manhas top scored for Qatar with a finely made 50 runs. Prithu Banskota was most successful bowler for Nepal as he took three wickets whereas Sagar Khadka and Chandra Saud took two scalps each. Skipper Gyanendra Malla and Lal Bahadur Adhikari took one wicket each.



In reply, Nepal achieved the winning target in just 37.1 overs losing three wickets. Gyanendra Malla scored unbeaten 67 runs and was adjudged man of the match.

Prithu Banskota chipped in with the valuable 27 runs for Nepal. Anil Mandal and Sunny Pun added 22 and 11 runs respectively in Nepal´s total.



In another playoff match for fifth and sixth positions played on Thursday, Malaysia defeated UAE by four wickets.
