Nepal records five more COVID-19 related deaths

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Five more people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Nepal.

A government employee in Saptari, two other individuals undergoing treatment at Butwal Corona Hospital - each from Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi - and one each from Tanahun and Dadeldhura districts died on Thursday.

The man, 55, who died of COVID-19 in Saptari was an office assistant at the District Administration Office.

He, who was also a cook for the chief district officer, had tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago. Since then, he was in home isolation.

Likewise, a 50 years old man from Buddha Bhumi Municipality-6, Kapilvastu, and another 49 years old man from Ramgram-3, Nawalparasi district, also succumbed to COVID-19.

According to the focal person of Butwal Corona Hospital, the deceased from Nawalparsai was admitted to the hospital on Sept 12 and was on ventilator from Sept 18. “Likewise, the man from Kapilvastu was admitted to the hospital on Sept 17 and was kept on a ventilator from the very next day,” he added.

So far, 17 individuals have succumbed to COVID-19 at Butwal Corona Hospital. Forteen COVID-19 patients at the Intensive care Unit (ICU) and 26 others in isolation are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. 

Similarly, a 39 years old youth from Abhukairani Municipality-3, Tanahu, who was undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College and a 48 years old man from Navadurga Rural Municipality, Dadeldhura, died on Thursday. 

For the very first time, Dadeldhura district has recorded a fatality linked with COVID-19.
