KATHMANDU, Aug 23: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported 818 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, up by 184 cases a day earlier.
At a virtual media briefing on Sunday afternoon, Jageshwar Gautam, the spokesperson for the MoHP, said that 818 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded while conducting 8,026 PCR tests at various laboratories across the country in the past 24 hours.
"With the fresh cases recorded in the past 24 hours, Nepal's coronavirus tally has soared to 31, 935," Gautam said. The Kathmandu Valley alone recorded 166 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
The number of coronavirus patients to be discharged after recovery currently stands at 18,631, which is 58% of the total cases, according to Gautam.
"Some 281 persons who had tested positive for the virus were discharged after recovery in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours," Spokesperson Gautam said.
Three more people succumbed to coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus death toll to 149, according to Gautam.
There are currently 13,155 active cases of coronavirus in various parts of the country, he said.
