KATHMANDU, Aug 11: After the confirmation of 638 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Nepal's COVID-19 tally has risen to 23,948.
At a regular media briefing, Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population said that 638 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded during 10,562 PCR tests conducted at various laboratories across the country in the past 24 hours.
This is the highest single day spike in coronavirus cases in Nepal after a hiatus of more than a month.
Gautam shared that 171 persons who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 were discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours. "With this, 16,664 persons have recovered from coronavirus as of today," the spokesperson said.
Spokesperson Gautam said that there are currently 7,201 active cases of coronavirus across the country.
Likewise, four more COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus death toll to 83.
