Nepal ranks 8th on list of world’s weakest passports

KATHMANDU, July 19: In the list of powerful passports in the world, Nepal has been ranked in 98th position out of 103 countries.

In the survey conducted by The Henley Passport Index, based on the highest number of on-arrival visas in the country, the Nepali passport has been ranked eighth from the last on the list of the most powerful passports in the world.

In the report published by The Henley Passport Index with the names of the most powerful and least powerful passports in the world, the passport of Nepal receives an on-arrival visa only in 38 countries.

According to the list, Afghanistan holds the weakest passport. Ranked 103rd, the Afghan passport receives a visa on arrival in only 27 countries. In comparison, Iraq follows closely with 29 countries, while Syrian passports receive visa-on-arrival access in 30 countries. Pakistan fares slightly better with 33 countries, while Yemen and Somalia secure 35 visa-on-arrival privileges. On the other hand, conflict-affected Palestine and Nepal enjoy visa-on-arrival access in 38 countries.

North Korea's passport is more powerful than these countries. North Korean passports receive such visas in 39 countries. The passport of Bangladesh gets such visas in 40 countries while those of Sri Lanka and Libya in 41 countries. Kosovo enjoys such privilege in 42 countries.

Singapore has the most powerful passport on the list. Their passports get visas on arrival in 192 countries and then Germany, Italy and Spain get visas on arrival in 190 countries respectively.

This study is based on special data of the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), according to the Henley Passport Index. It is said that 199 passports and 227 travel destinations were included in the study.
