Nepali passport ranks 8th on the list of world’s weakest passports

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Nepali passport has significantly lost its strength as compared to the passports of various other countries. 

In the list of passports of all countries in the world, Nepal has reached the 8th position from the last place. The Nepali passport is shown weaker than those of Bangladesh and North Korea.

In the list of powerful passports of 2024 published by Henley, Nepal has reached the eighth place from last. Nepal is at the 98th position in the list. The most powerful passports are those of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain. The passports of these six countries are at number one. Those with passports from the first six countries can enter 194 countries without a pre-visa.

The seventh-ranked US passport allows entry to 188 countries without an advance visa. India's passport, ranked 80th, gets visas on arrival in 62 countries. China's passport is ranked 62nd. A Chinese passport gets visas on arrival in 85 countries.

The Nepali passport allows one to travel to 40 countries without a visa. In South Asia, one can enter 43 countries with the passport of Sri Lanka, which is stronger than Nepal’s, and 42 countries with the passports of Bangladesh and North Korea.

The Henley Passport Index lists the passports of different countries based on the information of the International Air Transport Association. This is based on the fact as to how many countries nationals of these countries can travel to other countries without securing a visa before their travel.
