Confusion between Nepal Police headquarters and the Ministry of Home Affairs had stalled the transfer and promotion of police officers since long back. IGP Rana said the officers were transferred on the basis of "seniority, capability and necessity."[break]
SP Purnachandra Joshi has been transferred to Metropolitan Traffic Police; Tarini Prasad Lamsal to Interpol Department, Pradyumna Kumar Karki to Metropolitan Police crime division; Ganesh Bahadur Thapa to Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu; Gobinda Ram Pariyar to the operations department of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office; Ganesh Bahadur Aeir to the special security department of the Metropolitan Police Commissioners Office; Suraj KC has been sent to National Security Council; Bharat Raj Sharma has been sent to CIAA; and Dilip Kumar Chaudhary has been transferred to Metropolitan Police Range Bhaktapur.
Similarly, Hari Bahadur Paal has been transferred to District Police Office, Rupandehi; Mahesh Bikram Shah to District Police Office, Rautahat; Pitambar Adhikari to District Police Office, Birgunj; Gupta Bahadur Shrestha to District Police Office, Makwanpur; Dipal Kumar Thapa to District Police Office, Chitwan; Gita Upreti to District Police Office, Kavre; and Kamal Bahadur GT has been transferred to District Police Office, Nawalparasi.
According to Nepal Police Headquarters, among 133 posts, 11 DSP posts were vacant since long back. However some police officers have alleged the IGP´s bias in effecting the transfers. IGP Rana dismissed the allegation and said, "No police officer is far or close for me. And all of them are equally important and vital."
He also said the home ministry should resume the stalled process of promoting DIGs and transferring AIGs as soon as possible in order to make the police institution more effective. The post of the chief of Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s office is vacant after Rana was promoted to IGP.
