KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Dogs trained by the Nepal Police are now available for adoption by the general public. However, for that, some conditions set by the police have to be fulfilled.

The Central Dog Training Center of Nepal Police is facilitating the adoption of 'retired' dogs, which have completed their service due to age.

Ram Chandra Satyal from the Central Dog Training Center explained, "The police train both imported and local dogs, deploying them in investigations. However, as dogs age, they 'retire,' typically after 7 years of service. These retired, trained dogs are now being offered to the general public."

"Previously, we used to retain them, but now they are being made available to the general public. So far, 4/5 dogs have already found new homes," mentioned DSP Satyal.

Meanwhile, police dogs, originally brought and trained at a significant cost from abroad, are being provided to the public free of charge. Prospective adopters must complete necessary paperwork and commit to fulfilling the conditions of responsible dog ownership.

Currently, Nepal Police boasts a workforce of over 90 trained dogs actively engaged in investigative activities.
