KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Nepal Police has issued a directive stating that the use of Nepal Police uniforms in films, television serials, stage performances, and similar media productions now requires mandatory approval. The decision comes after instances of misuse of police uniforms have been identified, prompting Nepal Police to implement stricter regulations. Henceforth, parties interested in using police uniforms must submit the script of their production and obtain official approval.

In a press release issued by the Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat on Wednesday, the police expressed their concern over the proliferation of anti-social and disruptive content, including the misuse of police uniform, offensive language, and dialogues that violate organizational norms. “Such content not only misrepresents the professional work conducted by the police but also jeopardizes the safety of innocent family members of police personnel. Nepal Police Headquarters has taken serious note of these activities, which adversely impact the morale of its employees,” according to the press release.

The press release further states, "Prior to using Nepal Police uniforms, the script of the production must be submitted for pre-approval to the Nepal Police Headquarters Audio-visual Branch in Naxal, in accordance with the intended purpose and necessity of uniform use. We urge the general public, including members of the media, to refrain from using insignia and police monograms on clothing without prior approval from the Nepal Police Headquarters Audiovisual Branch. Any use of police uniforms for purposes other than those approved in projects and scripts is discouraged. Actions and expressions that undermine the professionalism and morale of police personnel while they carry out their duties professionally will not be tolerated, and appropriate legal measures will be taken in such cases."
