KATHMANDU, August 28: The CPN (Unified Socialist) and Democratic Socialist Party have got their positions in the federal parliament. The Election Commission sent the registration letters of CPN (Unified Socialist) and Democratic Socialist Party to the Parliament Secretariat on Friday.

According to the Secretariat, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Democratic Socialist Party will be provided state benefits like other national parties. With this, the number of national parties has reached six in Nepal. 

The Parliament Secretariat is ready to recognize the new parties after receiving the letters from the Election Commission, although the Speaker of Parliament has not taken any action on the recommendation of CPN-UML to sack 14 lawmakers. The CPN (Unified Socialist) was formed after splitting from the CPN-UML, while the Democratic Socialist Party was formed after its split with the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP)

After its formation, the CPN (Unified Socialist) party has now emerged as the fourth major party in the country while the Democratic Socialist Party is the sixth. Likewise, CPN-UML is the largest party followed by Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center). JSP is regarded as the fifth major party of the country.
