Nepal No 1 Shrestha falters but makes the cut

KATHMANDU, June 6: Nepal´s No 1 professional golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha faltered to the 21st position after completing the second round with one-over 73 on Wednesday in the Players Championship under the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).



Shrestha, who qualified in the PGTI after finishing the Qualifying School as the second best foreign player in December, had played two-under 70 in the first round on Tuesday sharing the 12th position.[break] However, he could not maintain the momentum in the second day at the Golden Greens Golf Club in Gurgaon on Wednesday.



Shrestha has total score of one-under 143 after the second day. On Wednesday, he took a turn with one-over 37 as he shot lone birdie on the second but suffered bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes. He started back nine with a birdie but suffered bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. The birdie on the 16th hole helped him to finish back nine with even-par 36.



Manav Jaini, who started the second day from the sixth position, catapulted himself to the top position after completing the second day with five-under 67. Jaini has total score of nine-under 135.



Another Nepali pro, Toran Bikram Shahi, who has been playing in the PGTI for more than a decade, missed the cut for the third round.



Shahi started the second day from the 91st position and jumped up to the 73rd after the second round. Shahi, who completed the first round with six-over 78 on Tuesday, gave improved performance on the second day as he finished with one-over 73 on Wednesday.
