Nepal-Malaysia Joint Working Committee meeting by June

KATHMANDU, May 3: The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has said that Nepal will host the Nepal-Malaysia Joint Working Committee meeting within June this year.

A five-day visit by a Nepali delegation led by Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha to Malaysia was fruitful, according to the ministry. 

During the visit which took place at the invitation of Malaysia's Minister for Human Resources, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, the Nepali delegation held bilateral meetings with Malaysian Minister for Home Affairs Hamzah Zainudin and Minister Saravanan and proposed increasing the minimum remuneration, service and other perks and benefits for Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia.

The meeting also agreed to hold the Nepal-Malaysia Joint Working Committee meeting within June this year. 

During the meetings, discussions were held on a wide range of issues relating to the labor pact between Nepal and Malaysia inked in 2018. The pact has provisions for increasing employment opportunities for Nepalis, making Nepali youths more skilled to cater to the needs of the Malaysian labor market, making arrangements for security guard related training in Nepal, making zero-cost principle effective for selection and induction of youths for foreign employment, among others. 

Furthermore, arrangements of health, social security and social welfare, 24-hour insurance service for Nepali migrant workers among others were also figured in the meetings, the ministry added. 

The Nepali delegation had urged the Malaysian side to consider raising the monthly salary of the Nepali security guards in Malaysia to 3,000 Malaysian ringgit.
