Nepal-led faction of UML forms parallel party committees

KATHMANDU, March 13: Protesting against Chairman KP Oli’s decision to unilaterally strip all leaders close to the faction off their responsibilities in the party, the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the CPN-UML has formed parallel committees in the party.

According to a decision taken by the Nepal-led faction of the UML on Saturday, Bhim Acharya has been named the in-charge of Province 1, Ghanashyam Bhusal of Province 2, and Asta Laxmi Shakya of Province 3. The Oli-led faction on Friday had picked Subas Nembang as the in-charge of Province 1 and Satya Narayan Mandal as the in-charge of Province 2. The Oli-led faction had entrusted the former Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa with the responsibility of the party’s in-charge of Bagmati Province, stripping Acharya and Shakya off their responsibilities.

While Yubaraj Gyawali has been entrusted with the responsibility of the party’s in-charge of provinces Lumbini and Karnali, Surendra Pandey and Bhim Rawal have been named the in-charge of the Nepal-led faction of the UML in Gandaki and Sudur Pashchim Province, respectively.  

Similarly, the Nepal-led faction has appointed Raghuji Pant as the chief of the Youth Department, Gokarna Bista as the chief of the Students’ Department, Yogesh Bhattarai as the Chief of the Publicity Department, and Asta Laxmi Shakya as the chief of Women’s Department. Pramesh Hamal will lead the faction’s Intellectuals Department.
