With the theme of "Redefining Leadership," the conference focused on five topics - civil movements, entrepreneurship, rebuilding, governance and women leadership. In the opening session, Thapa, Paudyal and Malla shared their personal experience on how they managed to take a stand in a critical situation while they were holding key positions.
Thapa and Paudyal stressed the importance of collaborative leadership and stated that group works should be encouraged. Injecting a different perspective, Malla said one theory and principal of leadership does not apply everywhere and individual leadership is as important as collaborative leadership.
In the session with the theme "Staying Alive through Dangers of Leading," discussions focused on the much-needed leadership skills when leaders find themselves in a vulnerable position.
"Even if they find themselves in a vulnerable position, leaders should stand up for the right thing. We cannot just quit leadership and further complicate the problem," said Malla.
Pukar Malla, executive director of Daayitwa, urged the audience to value responsibility over power. "We can lead and bring change regardless of whether or not we are in the position of authority. On should always put work ethics, morality and responsibility ahead of the authority," he added.
Over 150 leaders from public, private, social and academic sectors came together to share their critical perspectives on leadership in the conference organized in the capital on Thursday.
