CHITWAN, March 9: A meeting of Nepali and Indian officials concluded in Balmiki Nagar of Bihar state in India, Monday.

At the meeting, officials from both sides reviewed progress made so far toward implementing a 21-point agreement reached last year and starting the process of implementing the points yet to be implemented.

The 21-point agreement was reached to address the demands put forth by the Gandak Struggle Committee representing a group of people affected by the Gandak canal.

“Maintenance of siphon and road and compensation for people affected by inundation were some of the points of the agreement,” said Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi, Bal Krisnna Panthi. Panthi led a 13-member Nepali team to the meeting. The District Magistrate of Champaran led a 46-member Indian team.

The two sides agreed to hold a joint meeting of technicians from both sides in April to start monitoring maintenance work on the Gandak canal.
