It has been learnt that the Nepali side has proposed joint-secretary level meeting of the two countries for November 4-5 in Kathmandu. According to Home Ministry officials, modalities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in combating terrorists, criminals and other hostile elements detrimental to the interests of India and Nepal would be discussed in the meeting. “We are still chalking out agendas to be discussed in the meeting,” said a top Home Ministry official.
The meeting holds significance in the light of Special Security Plan that the government has launched in various districts, especially those bordering India, and the recent spurt in Maoist activities in various parts of India. India has accused Nepali Maoists of supporting their Indian counterparts.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Friday had accused Nepali Maoists for the killing of 17 policemen in Gadchiroli area on Thursday.
The meeting is part of institutional mechanisms building measure between India and Nepal in the area of security cooperation. These include the home secretary-level talks, Bilateral Consultative Group on Security Issues, the Joint Working Group on Border Management and the District Coordination Committees.
