KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Nepali and Indian authorities began talks in Kathmandu on Tuesday to revise the much-talked-about Transit Treaty.

During the two-day meeting, the officials from the two countries will discuss various ways to further enhance bilateral trade and Nepal's third-country trade via Indian seaports.

"We are expecting to conclude the issue of cross-border inland waterways after holding detailed discussions on the same," Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Nawaraj Dhakal said. He said that the two sides will hold discussions on revising the Transit Treaty.

"There will be detail discussions on Haldiya-Sahibganj-Kalugat inland water ways and allow Nepal using Mundra and Dhamara Sea ports of India for the third country import and export," said Dhakal. Also, there will be a discussion on the Electric Cargo Surveillance system between the two countries. The Nepali delegation is led by Dhakal while the Indian side is led by Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, a joint secretary at the Department of Commerce of India.
