Nepal embassy in Dhaka holds program on business promotion

KATHMANDU, June 28: Nepal’s embassy in Bangladesh organized an interaction on ‘Business and Investment opportunities in Nepal’ in Dhaka on Thursday.



Issuing a press statement on Friday, the embassy said the program was organized aiming at promoting Nepal’s bilateral economic and commercial relations with Bangladesh. [break]



Addressing the function as chief guest, international affairs advisor to the Bangladeshi prime minister, Prof. Gowher Rizvi underscored the need to strengthen connectivity between Bangladesh and Nepal for increased trade and tourism between the two South Asian countries.



“He (Rizvi) also emphasized the need to move forward the trilateral process of sub-regional cooperation to harness synergies in the sub-region, including hydropower development and transit connectivity,” reads the statement.

 Former president of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), Binod Chaudhary highlighted that there exist vast untapped potentials between the two countries in terms of trade, tourism and investment. He added that Nepal offers huge potential for investment in hydropower development, infrastructural projects, tourism and hospitality and services.



Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh Hari Kumar Shrestha emphasized that private sector and business community have an important role to play to intensify bilateral cooperation by expanding and diversifying trade and commercial relations between the two countries.



Former Bangladeshi ambassador to Nepal, Humayun Kabir expressed that Nepal, situated between two economic power houses – China and India, has a strong potential to achieve great social and economic progress.



Prominent businessmen and industrialists of Bangladesh attended the program, including office bearers and members of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), Metropolitan Chamber, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), members of diplomatic corps and and media.
