Nepal defeat Iran by 62 runs

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3: Tournament favorite Nepal began the ACC Women Twenty20 Tournament campaign with a thumping 62-run win over debutant Iran at the Bayemas Oval in Malaysia on Friday.



Nira Rajopadhyay shined for Nepal scoring 39 runs with four boundaries as they scored 109/3 in 20 overs after electing to bat first. She also took a wicket while bowling out Iran for 47 runs in 15.4 overs.



Rekha Rawal picked up three wickets giving away 12 runs in her four overs while Sonu Khadka got 2/8 in her 3.4 overs. Captain Ritu Kanoujiya and Ambika Budhathoki grabbed a wicket each.



Earlier, Maya Rawal and Rashi Sharma contributed to Nepal’s score. Maya got 20 while Rashmi remained unbeaten on 13 to help Nepal reach a good total.



Ritu (6*) and former captain Nary Thapa (7) were other batswomen to bat for Nepal.



"We did not score as we had hoped, we should have scored 140," coach Pradeep Raj Pandey said. "But I hope we will improve in coming matches."



Nepal will play Singapore, who lost to Thailand by 11 runs, on Saturday at Selangor Turf Club.
