Nepal-China officials discuss disaster risk reduction

BEIJING, Oct 19: Officials of Nepal and China held discussion for collaboration on the issue of disaster risk reduction and management.


The visiting Nepali delegation members and officials of the Emergency Management Body of China discussed the issues - forecasting the risk and capacity building of search and rescue teams.


Executive chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Anil Pokharel, shared that they discussed the issues including monitoring risk, bringing the early warning system regarding disaster into operation, capacity building of search and rescue teams to be deputed in emergency situation as well as capacity building of employees of concerned bodies-- the home ministry and the NDRRMA.

On the occasion, discussion was also held on the issue of collaborating among the Asian countries for risk reduction and emergency management along with activities of Belt and Road Initiatives.


Joint-secretary at the home ministry, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, joint-secretary at the foreign ministry, Amrit Bahadur Rai, and NDRRMA Executive Chief Pokharel on behalf of Nepal and high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Emergency Management from the Chinese side were present in the meeting.


The Nepali delegation extended gratitude towards the support of China in relief and rescue after the Gorkha earthquake as well as reconstruction of archeological heritages.


The Nepali delegation also visited 'Command Center', which assesses the multiple disasters and instructs during emergency situations in China.
