KATHMANDU, June 21: Nepal bounced back in the Cricket World Cup qualifiers from their opening match defeat against hosts Zimbabwe to beat the United States by six wickets in their Group A match on Tuesday.

Team USA’s Karachi-born wicketkeeper Shayan Jahangir’s unbeaten century went in vain as the Americans suffered their second successive defeat in the qualifiers.

After recovering an early setback of 18 runs for four wickets, Jahangir’s 100 helped the US team score 207 all out off 49 overs.

Sushant Modani contributed 42 runs and Gajanand Singh 26 but other batsmen failed to perform well in the batting discipline. Only one other US batsman scored in double digit as the US batting order collapsed cheaply.

Karan KC was the pick of the Nepali bowlers for his four- wicket haul giving away 33 runs in 9 overs, including 3 maidens. It also earned him the player of the match award. Gulshan Jha took 3 wickets while Dipendra Singh Airee took 2 and Lalit Rajbansi took 1 wicket.

Karan KC and Gulsan Jha shared seven wickets between them to restrict the US.

In reply, Bhim Sharki hit an unbeaten 77 while Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 39 runs apiece as Nepal secured the victory with ease, ending on 211/4 with 42 balls to spare.

In another match of the day, Sikandar Raza delivered a masterclass to help Zimbabwe to a convincing six-wicket win over the Netherlands in their Cricket World Cup Group A qualifier.

In the next match, Ireland will face Scotland and Oman will take on the United Arab Emirates in Group B matches on Wednesday.

Only the top two teams among the 10 taking part in the three-week qualifier will make it to the ICC World Cup to be played in India in October and November later this year.
