KATHMANDU, June 23: The Nepal Army (NA) has recommended to the government to promote Major General Toran Bahadur Singh to the post of Lieutenant General to fill the post left vacant after General Kul Bahadur Khadka who retired on Saturday.

The decision to recommend Singh was taken by the board meeting of the NA on June 22.

"The NA has recommended to promote General Singh to the three-star post," a NA official confirmed.

However, even after his promotion, General Singh will remain the third in command due to seniority which is commanded by Lieutenant General Chattra Man Singh Gurung.

The Defense Ministry has to formally endorse the recommendation and propose it to the cabinet.
